There is a disc golf course in Australia which is a ‘must play’ experience and we had the opportunity to play there on our way home from the Gold Coast Classic last year. That course is Granite Mountain, a privately owned course lovingly built and maintained by Nathan and Carmen Lee. Located at Applethorpe, just outside Stanthorpe in Southern QLD, this 18 hole course is like no other we have played before. It is built on a granite ‘mountain’ and presents all sorts of fun challenges. The landscape itself is stunning and you will most likely meet some local native wildlife while playing.
We were joined by two other families during our visit, all of whom stayed overnight which made it even more fun. Nate and Carmen do hospitality well. We had a fantastic time, on and off the course. Evelyn has rated this as her all time favourite disc golf course. Perhaps that has something to do with the added sense of adventure with challenges like climbing the ladder to reach the basket on hole 11…….and just in case you are wondering, you can take the long way around but that just isn’t as much fun.
Granite Mountain has been chosen as the venue for the 2018 QLD Championships.
