Last weekend Evelyn played her first tournament for the year, the 2018 Victorian Disc Golf Open, at Ruffey Lake Park in Doncaster. The Vic Open championship course at Ruffey Lake is a tough course. It takes almost four hours to complete the 18 holes and there are a lot of very steep hills.
Day one of play was a little tough for Evelyn. She was tired after being at school camp all week and sometimes let her emotions get the better of her She had some very tough competition from Rylee Seidel, a talented, young disc golfer from Mt Gambier in SA who only discovered the sport about a year ago and Lily Sweetten who, at just eight years old was playing in her first A-tier tournament. After a very tough struggle, Evelyn finished day one, three shots behind Rylee.
Evelyn decided to just go out there and have fun on her second day and wow! did we see an improvement! She took four shots off her Saturday round and was lucky enough to take out first in the FJ2 division (under 15 girls) with a 625 rated round. Better still, she had fun. It is not often we have a card with mainly junior girls so this was a very special occasion.
I was lucky enough to play on the same card as these awesome young ladies who all displayed resilience, determination and a great sense of mate-ship throughout the weekend.
Evelyn also took out the CTP prize on day one for competitors with a rating below 750. Her tee shot landed just 2.4m from the basket of the 97m, hole 17! For this she won a very sweet, special edition RPM Disc

Our next tournament on the Australian tour is the South Australian Open / Women’s Global Event at Mount Gambler on 12th – 13th May. This a brand new course so we can’t wait to get there and try it out.
