The past few days in Emporia have been exciting for Evelyn and her new friends. Evelyn met the Eagle Wings staff and other Eagle Wings Grant recipients at a dinner on Wednesday night and received even more goodies. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of all involved in Junior Worlds.

Evelyn had the opportunity to decorate her own disc as well and was once again interviewed by Danny Lindahl. Everyone seems to know her by name. I am Evelyn’s Mum. 🙂

The children participated in field events yesterday and Evelyn was the Australian flag bearer at the opening ceremony last night. Evelyn came equal second in the Under 12 girls putting competition.

She also had the opportunity to stamp her own disc at the Dynamic Discs warehouse.

Today was the first official day of the PDGA Junior World Disc Golf Championships. Children from across the globe are competing in their respective age divisions for the prestigious title of World Champion.
Evelyn had a fair start to the day. She shot 33, finishing 2nd on her card in her first round at the nine hole, Flint Hills course and 4th overall in her division.

Her afternoon round was not so good. She had two OB shots and had some bad luck with some of the trees at Hammond Park. Despite this, she is still playing above her rating, having a great time and making some fantastic friends.

Evelyn has also had the opportunity to meet a few of the pros. Emporia is “Disneyland for Disc Golfers’, and celebrities carry a sharpie wherever they go. 🙂 Better still is that they all take the time to talk to and encourage juniors they meet.
And even though she is not here, this was delivered to Evelyn last night via our friend Das Loomis…. a special message of support from Jennifer Allen! It won’t be easy coming down from this cloud.

Tomorrow is a new day and we are resting this evening to make sure we are ready for two rounds of 18 in 96 degree F heat with unbelievable humidity. Our morning round is at Peter Pan and the afternoon round at Jones West, two of the longer and more technical courses. Wish us luck! If you would like to send Evelyn a message of support, please do so, either here or on Facebook. She is loving your video and text messages. More pics and videos soon.
